Hello Darkness My Old Friend
I greet the darkness like an old acquaintance,
not with love, but with familiarity.
It knows my name,
knows how to sit beside me
without asking questions.
It shows up when my strength feels thin,
when pushing forward feels like dragging
the weight of the day behind my ribs.
I don’t invite it
it just remembers the way.
Still, I stand.
Even with shaking hands,
even with a heart that feels bruised by trying,
I keep moving through the fog,
step by quiet step.
The darkness whispers that it’s easier to rest,
to stop fighting the current.
But I answer with breath,
with one more moment,
with the stubborn pulse that says not yet.
I am tired, yes
but I am here.
I am pushing through shadows
toward a light I can’t fully see,
trusting that effort itself
is proof of life.
So hello, darkness
you may walk beside me,
but you will not decide my ending.
I’m still moving forward,
even when forward feels slow,
even when it hurts.
And that, today,
is enough. 💛
