Betrayed And Broken

There are wounds that bleed but never show,
Invisible, yet fierce and deep
A trust betrayed,
a fatal blow
That robs us even as we sleep.
We opened doors with open hands,
Believed in words,
in smiles,
in friends,
We built our dreams on hopeful sands,
Not knowing how the story ends.
You came with promises so sweet,
With laughter warm and plans so grand,
We welcomed you,
we took a seat,
And placed our future in your hands.
But shadows crept behind your eyes,
Intentions twisted,
sharp and cold,
You spun your web of careful lies,
And left us stranded,
bought and sold.
The bills piled high,
the nights grew long,
We watched our savings disappear,
The world kept turning,
right or wrong,
While we were drowning in our fear.
How could you look us in the face,
And take the food from off our plates?
How could you leave without a trace,
And burden us with all your fates?
The anger rises, hot and wild,
A storm that rages in my chest
You stole the future from my child,
And put our faith to bitter test.
I hate the way you haunt my mind,
The sleepless nights,
the endless dread,
The way you left us far behind,
With empty pockets,
dreams long dead.
It’s purely frustrating,
raw and real,
To know you walk the world so free,
While we are left to scrape and kneel,
To beg for scraps,
to bend a knee.
I want to scream,
to curse your name,
To see you suffer as we do,
To watch you tremble,
taste your shame,
To make you pay for what you knew.
But hatred,
too,
is just a chain,
A poison burning from within
It cannot heal,
it cannot gain
The peace we lost,
the hope we’ve been.
So here we stand,
betrayed and bruised,
Our trust in tatters,
faith undone,
But we are not forever used
We rise,
we fight,
we are not done.
We gather strength from what remains,
We hold each other through the storm,
We learn to build from loss and pains,
And slowly,
painfully,
transform.
For though you’ve left us in the dust,
And though our hearts are scarred and sore,
We will not let you break our trust
In life, in love, in something more.
We’ll find a way to heal,
to mend,
To build again,
to stand up tall
And though we’ll never call you friend,
We’ll find our peace,
despite it all.
So take your lies,
your hollow gain,
And leave us with our battered pride
For we will rise above the pain,
With family,
hope,
and love beside.
