Letting Go Of What Once Was

We built a bridge from hopes and dreams,

A path through sunlit, whispered streams.

Hand in hand, we faced the dawn,

Believing bonds would carry on.

But time, relentless, changed our tune,

The melody was lost too soon,

In shadows cast by petty fights,

Drowned out the stars on silent nights.

I clung to memories, sweet and bright,

A lighthouse in my darkest night.

Yet even stars are fleeting, rare,

Fading into cold, thin air.

The laughter, once so loud and clear,

Now echoes faint, no longer near.

Attempts to mend what’s torn apart,

Seemed only to break my heart.

I watched the walls between us grow,

A silent, unbridgeable snow,

Covering truths we once revealed,

Leaving wounds that wouldn’t heal.

Perhaps it’s time to silently drift,

To let go of the cherished gift,

Of friendship’s flame that flickered low,

And learn to walk away, and go.

Not out of bitterness or spite,

But because sometimes, wrong feels right,

When love’s dissolved, and trust has slipped,

It’s better to let go, equipped.

For holding on can choke the soul,

Binding us in pain’s control.

So I release, I set aside,

The ghost of what we once implied.

May peace find you where you stand,

May you find love, and understand

Some friendships, like leaves on trees,

Must fall away with gentle ease.

And in this letting go, I find,

A quiet strength, a clearing mind.

To cherish what was, then move free

A farewell to what used to be.
